Information Kubrat municipality and city of КUBRAT




Kubrat Municipality is situated in the Northeastern Bulgaria, and is in the center of West Ludogorie area, on a high plateau, 235 meters above sea level and occupies an area of 462 000 decares. It is bounded by the municipalities of Tutrakan /Silistra region/, Slivo pole /Ruse region/, Vetovo/ Ruse region/ and Zavet /Razgrad region/.
Kubrat municipality is one of the seven municipalities in Razgrad district and is also a part of North-Eastern planning region /NUTS-2/, with administrative center Varna. The Municipality covers the area of 420 000 decares, with population of 22 954 people. It is the second largest area in the region and third after Razgrad and Isperih, regaring to the number of population. The Kubrat municipality consists of 17 built up places: one town - the municipality center Kubrat and 16 villages. 

Infrastructure
Transport system



The transport is mainly land one.
The following transport thoroughfares cross the municipality: road II-49 (Razgrad-Kubrat-Tutrakan), which connects the municipality with the nearest railway station Prostorno, and with the water transport (the town of Tutrakan); road II-23 (Dulovo-Isperih-Kubrat-Ruse), which connects with the other municipalities. The rest of the residential places are connected with the town and the neighbouring municipalities with road nets with length 67.7 km.

Water supply and sewerage

The water-supply is provided by 11 deep (over 650 m) drills, two shaft wells in the village of Yuper and the village of Topchii and two shallow (up to 160 meters) drills in the village of Yuper. 12 pump stations with a capacity of 318 liters per second have been built as well as 23 water basins with a capacity of 4470 cubic meters. The total length of the waterworks built on the territory of the municipality is 178 km including internal waterworks and diversions 117.8 km.
The water-supply, sewerage and the purification of the waste waters on the territory of the municipality are activities undertaken by the municipality-owned firm "Water supply and Sewerage - Meden Kladenets" SLtd.

Hydro melioration

On the territory of Kubrat municipality there are more than 100 000 decares of area under irrigation, 7 pump stations, 2 equalizers - in the villages of Tetovo and Zvanartsi, all managed by Irrigation Systems - the town of Ruse.

Earth Formations

The town of Kubrat /above sea level 250-300 meters / is situated on a high ameba shaped plateau in the western half of the middle plateau-shaped part of the Ludogorie region, a part that is cut by wide, diluting, shrinking and sinking into the cross dry valleys long ridges between the valleys of the rivers and their feeders.
Climate

The climate of Kubrat municipality as well as of the whole Ludogorie region is temperately continental characterized by comparatively hot summer and cold winter seasons. In the winter cold north-eastern air currents rush in causing frequent decreases in temperature to -25оС and in the summer south-western winds cause droughts. 

 Water resources

Kubrat municipality is supplied with drinking water. On its territory there are small municipal artificial lakes around the villages of Yuper, Bozhurovo, Bisertzi, Gorichevo, Tetovo and others, which provide good conditions for fishing.

Soils

The predominant type of soils on the territory of the municipality is the humus soil which favours high yields of grain crops, perennials and vegetables.

Fauna

On the territory of Kubrat municipality mainly animal species of North-European, Middle European and steppe animals are spread.
The inhabitant hunting species here are:
CLASS MAMMALS: Cloven-footed order- noble deer, doe, wild boar; Rabbit order - rabbit; Rodents order - squirrel; Predatory animals order - wolf, jackal, fox, wild cat, badger, marten, black polecat, weasel.
CLASS BIRDS: Hen order - Mongolian peasant, partridge, quail; Goose order - duck, semi-wild duck; Pigeon order - ring-dove, turtle-dove.
CLASS FISH: Carp order - carp, sheat-fish, yuklei (inhabits the micro artificial lakes)
Besides the listed hunting species in the region there are a lot of representatives of the families daily predatory, owlet, thrushes, titmouse, nightingales, skylarks, woodpeckers, fern-owls, hoopoes and others.

Natural sights

Yuper coppice - situated near by the village of Yuper. It occupies an area of 232 decares. Yuper coppice is a remaining of the old Deliormanska forest and it is a group of centuries old trees of bushy oak tree at the age over 170 years.
Myushterika - situated south to the village of Belovets and it is a natural deposit of wild red peony. It occupies an area of 50 decares. The area is a forest one, with prevailing carries oak.
Tueska leska (Turkish hazlebush) - situated near by the road from the town of Kubrat for the town of Tutrakan. It occupies an area of 56 decares. It is a forest area, where among the other threes there is Turkish hazelnut bush.
Bozhurite (the peonies) - a beautiful natural area, where annually, in the spring some of the cultural municipal manifestations are held.

Economy

The agriculture is one of the most developed branches of the municipal economy, which is characteristic to all of the settlements in the municipality, providing the occupation of a considerable part of the population. The major priorities of the municipal policy are aimed at the: development of the ecological agriculture and stock-breeding; restoring the traditions in the vegetable-growing; recovering the fruit-culturing and vine-growing: creating small enterprises for processing and packaging of agricultural production.
The tendency in the local economy development, during the last years outline the manufacturing industry, agriculture and forestry industry, trade and services as the determining branches for the branch structure.

Culture, arts, museum and arts

The municipality offers to the visitors a rich cultural calendar, full of preserved holidays and customs. Tradition in the municipality is to celebrate the holidays of the residential places, eminent days and anniversaries, Christmas and New Eve Celebrations, as well as the celebrations of the traditional Eastern Orthodox Christian calendar and Moslem calendar. Each year, under tradition, preserved through the social and political changes, during the May celebrations in Kubrat there is a traditional fair, and Day of Kubrat - 24th of May is celebrated.
The historical and cultural heritage, collected and preserved by patriotic Bulgarians, places the beginning of the town museum in the restored in 1984 house, where Petar Ivanov-Komitata, a participator in Tanyo Voyvoda detachment has lived. Main directions in the museum are: “Archeological excavations in the region”, “National rebellious wars of the population in Kubrat and the municipality” and “Through the history of town”.
In the process of creation of the new forth direction in the town museum - “History of the town and notable figures”. It is for persons of special merits to the town - famous public figures, pedagogues, sportsmen, as well as for our famous fellow-citizen Lily Ivanova.
Тradition in the cultural life of Kubrat is the amateur theatre to the cultural club “St. st. Kiril and Metodii”, which originates since the 30es.
Various genre amateur formations of folklore, singer's bands, dance groups, etc are established in the municipality.
In the villages of Yuper, Belovets and Zvanartsi keep folk traditions and custom with the groups for authentic folklore are kept. Turkish folklore is mainly developed in the cultural clubs in Bisertsi, Sevar, Belovets and Madrevo.
Musical school is established in 1955 with classes of violin, accordion and piano. In the school of foreign languages French, German and English languages are studies. Different clubs of interests are established in the municipal center of Kubrat: cultural club of the cultural figures; satirical club “Jarava”; club “Prosveshtenie”; club of the young literary artists “Dimcho Debelyanov”.
Tradition in the municipality is to celebrate the holidays of the residential places, eminent days and anniversaries, Christmas and New Eve Celebrations, as well as different traditional celebrations.
Each year during May Celebrations in Kubrat there is a traditional fair, and with the decision of the Municipal council from 1994 24 May is announced for a Day of Kubrat. In the spring a part of the cultural events are held in the beautiful location Bozhurite - a nature protected place.
International Folklore Festival “Bojurite”
Situated within the municipality of Kubrat is such a reserve, called Mustereka. This reserve is a natural field of wild peonies (the Paeonia Peregrina Mill). This reserve is 50 dekares in area and is the only one of its kind in the region. The village and Belovets, 40 km southeast or Russe and 45 km northwest of Razgard is nearby wild peony reserve. The wild Paeonia blooms at the end of April and in the beginning of May.
Year in order, in beginning of May, more of one hundred people – singers and dancers are go in red sea from bloom peony. With people’s dress with beauty and youth of participant with beautiful singers and manners, this moments are convert in true people’s holyday. Year in order, in this place are lead IFF "Bojurite". In him are get participation folklores composition from Rep. Greece, Rep. Macedonia, Rep. Turkey, Rep. Romania, Kingdom Sweden and Rep. Bulgaria.

Tourism

Kubrat municipality expects investments in tourism in the near future, because for now tourism is not highly developed. The resource in this aspect is moreover connected with possibilities of developing the resting time of the population and inner tourism. The closeness to attractive tourist destinations could be of interest to Kubrat visitors - cultural and historic monuments and natural landmarks of national and world significance, part of which are under special protection - the historical and archeological reserve Sborianovo /under the protection of UNESCO/, the archeological reserve Abritus /Razgrad/ etc. On the territory of the municipality there are hunting areas with total area of 11 345 hectares. Excellent conditions for development of hunting tourist bases are available in the municipality. Since now, there are two shooting lodges with good accommodation capacity.

Health service

In the municipal center of the town of Kubrat one there is one medical establishment for hospital medical services - “Multifunctional hospital for active treatment” SLTD, in a monolithic building, constructed in 1972. The following wards are established in the hospital:
· Obstetrician ward
· Surgery ward
· Internal disease ward
· Neurologist's ward
· Infant's ward

The hospital personnel is 170 persons, 20 of them are doctors. There are clinical laboratory, ward for image diagnostics, pathologic and anatomist's ward. Besides it there are two hospital establishment for a specialized medical help out of the hospital:
“Medical center I - the town of Kubrat”SLTD - № 22 "Knyaz Boris I" Str.
“Мedical center - Saint Ekaterina” SLTD - № 1 "Gagarin: Str.
In the municipality there are 15 established cabinets for first aid out of the hospital - 9 practical cabinets in the villages of the municipality and 6 practical cabinets in the town of Kubrat.

Active sports

The following sports structures have been established on the territory of the municipality:
- Handball Sports Club
- Wrestling sports club in the village of Bisertsi
- Football club "Kubrat"
- Body building and power triathlon sports club
The above mentioned sports clubs are licensed by the Committee of youth, physical education and sport. They are included in the schedule of republican contests of the respective sports federations.
